Groups of N.

I'm trying to make a list of famous groups of N, for every N between 1 and 20. For example, if N=7: Wonders of the Ancient World; Deadly Sins; Noble Gases. Can you help me? Just comment with your favorite groups of things, and I will compile them. If a list like this already exists, point me in that direction, will ya? Thanks.

Man, this is great fun! I kept going randomly until I finally thought of something with 10. Then I thought of another something with ten. I'm sure I'm going to be thinking of more stuff all week. This game is great. Tell me which ones you like. And also tell me when to stop.

Does it count to use things that aren't limited in number, you know, like, "Items on a chinese menu"?

Hey, it just occured to me, you could look at the game Scattergories for more ideas. It's all about groups.

1: Karen Joy Neese
1: Ring to rule them all.
2: genders, unless you want to be PC about it.
3: planes, trains, automobiles
3: body parts of an insect
3: holy trinity (father, son, holy ghost - also known as holy spirit, but when I was a kid I preferred holy ghost because it sounded a lot spookier.)
3: Classical ages: Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age. I think this is a cool one.
4: seasons
4: years of high school.
4: cardinal directions. Can be expanded to include 8 or 16.
4: phases of the moon
4: steps of the scientific method (more, depending on where you look, but the general consensus seems to be observation, question, hypothesis, testing)
5: digits of the hand.
5: major American political parties http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_political_parties_in_the_United_States
7: Days of week
7: Classification levels (Kingdom phylum class order family genus species)
9: planets, duh.
10: commandments!
10: biomes of the world: http://library.thinkquest.org/11353/ecosystems.htm
12: days of christmas
12: months of year
12: disciples
12: Major organ systems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_anatomy#Major_organ_systems
20: latin american countries

I dare everyone else to come up with stuff this good.

This IS great fun. But I think that there is nothing famous in a group of 17 or 19. Unless you lower your standards.

N=1: Singular Sensation
N=2: Films in the "Hot Shots!" franchise.
N=3: Rivers in the City of Trois Rivieres, Quebec
N=5: Pillars of Islam
N=6: Pack (i.e., noose for sea otters)
N=7: has been done.
N=8: Pints in a gallon, furlongs in a mile, nights of Hanukkah
N=9: lives for a cat
N=13: floors in an unlucky building
N=14: deadly sins (if noble gases were also deadly sins).
N=16: Candles!

Good effort, good effort everyone. Not quite what I had in mind – I'm specifically looking for groups in which each member has a specific name. Most of Karen's work, but C Neal, you've got some catch up to do.

OK, I think I might see where you're going with this. For example: 13 Canadian provinces or territories. Is that what this is all about? For 88 keys on a piano?

Why, now that I think about it for a second, yes, it does bear some relationship to my improv project. Huh! How about that?

The other game (16 candles, 8 furlongs in a mile) is also a fun game. We can do that also. Besides, I think I'm moving away from needing a specific number fo things for my sessions. I'll just use some from a group. You'll see.
